This past weekend I went to a fundraiser in the form of a charitable auction for the Dennis C. Haley School. I learned of the auction from my mother who is a nurse at two Boston Public Elementary Schools - the Haley in Roslindale and Agassiz in Jamaica Plain.
One of the auction items was “Principal for a Day.” Mayor Menino was running the auction. I could not resist bidding on such an exciting opportunity so I did and won. I now have the distinct pleasure to serve as the Principal of the Haley School for a day with full rights and privileges. This entails leading the school during morning routines, spending time visiting classrooms, and meeting with school staff and community.
My mother routinely informs me of the challenges and great work that is being done in our Boston Public Schools and now I get to see it first-hand for myself. Rest assured I will blog about what my day was like and what I have learned so you can share in the experience.
