Superior Officers Back Kenneally

Boston, MA - Thursday, June 25, 2009 - The leadership of the Boston Police Superior Officers Federation (BPSOF) announced recently that it has endorsed Andrew Kenneally for one of the four at-large seats on the Boston City Council.

The endorsement from the BPSOF underscores Kenneally’s deep connections to the Boston law enforcement community. Kenneally has two brothers who serve in the Boston Police Department, and has been heavily involved in public safety issues throughout his ten years working in government. Kenneally founded and ran the non-profit West Roxbury Public Safety Coalition from 2003-2008.

The announcement also comes on the heels of a number of major endorsements in the past few months, including the Boston Presidents Committee of the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), Local 2222. Among the non-incumbent candidates for the four at-large City Council seats, Kenneally is currently a leader in fundraising and endorsements.

“Having two brothers and a cousin working as Boston Police Officers, I have a unique understanding of the challenges and dangers our men and women in law enforcement face every day. They are our first line of defense. I look forward to working with them to give them the support they need to protect themselves and the residents of Boston as we work together make our streets safer through stronger connections with the community,” Kenneally said.

“Andrew Kenneally understands firsthand the issues facing law enforcement today with the knowledge and experience to confront those issues through action. His work with the West Roxbury Public Safety Coalition helped to provide parents with the tools they need to keep our children drug-free. He also labored to pass key legislation to get “cop killer” guns off our streets as a top aide on the Boston City Council. That is why we are proud to support him,” said Joseph Gillespie, President of the BPSOF.

The BPSOF represents 245 police sergeants, lieutenants, and captains in the Boston Police Department.
