Superior Officers Back Kenneally

Boston, MA - Thursday, June 25, 2009 - The leadership of the Boston Police Superior Officers Federation (BPSOF) announced recently that it has endorsed Andrew Kenneally for one of the four at-large seats on the Boston City Council.

The endorsement from the BPSOF underscores Kenneally’s deep connections to the Boston law enforcement community. Kenneally has two brothers who serve in the Boston Police Department, and has been heavily involved in public safety issues throughout his ten years working in government. Kenneally founded and ran the non-profit West Roxbury Public Safety Coalition from 2003-2008. Read more »

What we share in common outweighs what divides us

This weekend Boston celebrates two parades - PRIDE and Bunker Hill Day.  Both parades speak to the battle over the fundamental belief that all people have the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.  While one battle succeeded centuries ago, the other continues.

I was reminded of this in March as I stood with my neighbors to counter-protest the “God Hates Fags” group who showed up on the front steps of East Boston High School to picket the school’s gay/straight alliance.

Campaign Update

This past Monday I joined thousands of Bostonians in thanking all the men and women in uniform who put their lives on the line everyday to keep us safe. We owe it to them to make sure that Boston is in great shape when they return.

As I meet with residents around our city at various neighborhood events and meetings, I learn about the wonderful successes and opportunities our city offers as well as those things that still need improvement. That is why I am running because I want to put my knowledge, experience and vision to work for you to make our great city even greater. Read more »

On Sunday, May 17th, I spent the better part of my day with Andrew Kenneally, a candidate this year for Boston City Council at Large. There are two vacant seats in this year’s election, quite rare in Boston politics. Several viable candidates are running for these two seats and I believe Andy has a good chance of snagging one of them. He’s Irish and Italian. He lives in East Boston. He grew up in West Roxbury. What a great political resume.

Principal For A Day

Haley Elementary School playground on American Legion Highway in Roslindale

This past weekend I went to a fundraiser in the form of a charitable auction for the Dennis C. Haley School.  I learned of the auction from my mother who is a nurse at two Boston Public Elementary Schools - the Haley in Roslindale and Agassiz in Jamaica Plain.

One of the auction items was “Principal for a Day.”  Mayor Menino was running the auction.  I could not resist bidding on such an exciting opportunity so I did and won.  I now have the distinct pleasure to serve as the Principal of the Haley School for a day with full rights and privileges.  This entails leading the school during morning routines, spending time visiting classrooms, and meeting with school staff and community.
